Americans Know A Swindle When They See It

The three words that utterly sum up the worldview of liberal Democrats are “Washington Knows Best.” They really seem to think Americans are incapable of running their own lives and too foolish to know when they’re being scammed. Take the preliminary CBO score Democrats were touting yesterday. Has a single one of them admitted it’s been structurally rigged to an absurd degree?

Of the projected $940 billion cost for the first 10 years, only $17 billion is spent in the first four years.

That means Americans face ten years of tax hikes to pay for a six year spending binge of $923 billion.

The bill uses nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts to pay for new entitlement spending, but Democrats also claim these cuts will reduce spending. They can’t have it both ways.

In a flight of fantasy, the bill assumes that Medicare physician payments will be cut 21% this year with more cuts in the future. That won’t happen. In the real world, that adds $371 billion in hidden spending to the bill’s cost.

Delving deeper into the realm of fantasy, the numbers also assume politicians in Washington will actually slow the growth of subsidies to the middle class and permit the imposition of tax increases on “Cadillac” insurance plans in the second decade.

Democrats are clearly playing shell games with taxpayer money. It’s no surprise that 81% of Americans know the actual costs of this health care takeover will be higher than the official estimates.

It’s not just about costs, though. This debate was supposed to be about preserving and expanding access to quality, affordable health care. If this ponzi scheme is such great news on that front, why do strong majorities believe it won’t make things better for themselves or the country as a whole?

The American people don’t need to wait for this bill to pass to know what is in it. They know a swindle when they see it.

This country wasn’t built on fraudulent budgetary gimmicks or a “Washington Knows Best” attitude. It’s time to end this charade.
