Rep. Akin Seeks Cosponsors to Prevent Importation of Human Bodies from China
Washington,
Jun 29 -
In 2008, ABC’s 20/20 revealed that a number of the human bodies being used in two competing exhibitions of plastinated human remains had been obtained from China and appeared to have been executed. This revelation led one of the two exhibitors to move to only using human remains from individuals who provided consent while they were still alive. Surprisingly, the second exhibitor, Premier Exhibitions, continues to use human bodies from China. Instead of providing financial reward for oppression, we should fight for human rights and the respect of human life. China’s human rights record is clear and we must take a clear stand against their abuses. For this reason, Congressman Akin introduced H.R. 5524, which would prohibit the importation of plastinated human remains from the People’s Republic of China.
