No Pressure Guys
Just Keep the Juice Flowing and Nobody Gets Fired
Washington,
Dec 10, 2009 -
Next Monday, CEOs from a number of major banks will visit the White House for a friendly, no pressure discussion with President Obama. Item one on the agenda? Lending.
“The lending issue irks some in the industry. ‘The White House’s political people like [senior adviser David] Axelrod tell us to lend more,’ said one banking official. ‘But the regulators are saying the exact opposite. They’re saying, ramp up your capital ratios, and if you see default risk on the horizon, cut back on lending.’” (Politico, 12/09/09)
Wait, did we say no pressure? Yeah, right. Don’t things just work great when the White House political team is pulling the gears of the economy? Can’t wait to count all the twisted arms.
