Price Offers Amendments to Improve Access and Quality of Care
Democrat Majority Refuses to Even Allow a Vote

Washington, Nov 7 - Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding two amendments he offered to H.R. 3962, the Democrats’ government takeover of health care.

“As a physician, I can identify clearly the damage Speaker Pelosi’s bill will do to patient care and the doctor-patient relationship,” said Chairman Price. “The amendments offered today would protect access to care and the quality of care – two important issues that Speaker Pelosi’s bill fails to appropriately address. The first of these amendments would protect an individual’s right to privately contract with a health care provider of their choice. This measure would protect access to care by preserving the freedom of patients to see the doctor of their choice without interference from Washington. The other amendment would establish best practice guidelines to ensure quality care and protect doctors who treat patients based on these guidelines by limiting excessive damages from abusive lawsuits. It is extremely unfortunate that the Democrat majority will not allow a vote on these common sense amendments. Speaker Pelosi’s takeover of health care spells disaster for patients and doctors. Time after time, Republicans have proposed better solutions for health care reform, yet our voices and those of the American people continue to be ignored by Speaker Pelosi and her allies.”
