Price Introduces Bill to Preserve Positive Welfare Reform
Washington,
Mar 4 -
Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after introducing the Welfare Reform Restoration Act (H.R. 1277) along with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). The bill repeals a recently enacted provision in the so-called “stimulus” bill, which creates a slush fund rigged in favor of increasing welfare caseloads. Welfare reform is widely hailed as one of the most successful bipartisan policy achievements in recent history.
“Welfare reform remains one of the monumental bipartisan legislative accomplishments of the last two decades,” said Chairman Price. “It serves as an example of how to encourage prosperity by putting people first. In the Democrats’ ongoing effort to expand the reach of government, they have stripped away a system that worked for everyone.
“The Welfare Reform Restoration Act will continue the progress we’ve made by preserving the original 1996 reforms. Now is no time to overturn a successful, common-sense approach in the name of expanding the welfare state. Americans are looking for solutions that increase opportunity and reduce the role of government. This bill is a necessary step in the right direction.”
