Senate Dems Get Taken to the Woodshed

The Brow Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves

Washington, Dec 15 -

Whoo boy, Senator Reid and the rest of his caucus are in trouble now! With 60 Democrat votes in the Senate, the government takeover of health care was supposed to be a done deal back in July. Then August. Then by Thanksgiving. Then by Christmas. But with all their internal squabbling, they just haven’t been able to produce for President Obama. Now he’s hauling them out to the woodshed.

“In a provocative argument designed to rescue his foundering health-care plan, President Barack Obama will warn Senate Democrats in a White House meeting Tuesday that this is the "last chance" to pass comprehensive reform. Obama will contend that if it fails now, no other president will attempt it, aides said.” (Politico, 12/14/09)

It’s the last chance…EVER! There is no tomorrow! Without this bill we are doooooooomed!

Ok, sorry, but it’s just impossible to take that argument seriously. The Democrats are hyperventilating because they see their chance to take control over 1/6 of the economy slipping away. This isn’t the last chance for health care reform; it’s just the last gasp of a highly unpopular government takeover of health care.

What the Democrats’ inability to pass their own proposals really signals is an opportunity for better ideas that truly address the concerns of patients – concerns like rising costs and lack of control over their own health care decisions. Republicans have had better solutions on the table all year long. Our solutions will still be there tomorrow. And so will the opportunity for true reform.
